January - April recap
I’m about to escape to Italy for a month, so before I go and drink too many Aperol spritzes, I thought it would be the perfect time to do a round up of my 2022 so far.
In January I was commissioned by Islington Museum to create a series of illustrations of potential changes to their signage, entrance and reception area. I really enjoyed visualising the changes that their staff and visitors had dreamt up.
In January I also took part in Art on a Postcard’s International Women Day auction, with all proceeds going to the Hepatitis C Trust.
In February, a book cover I illustrated for Quadrille’s ‘From Scratch' series was released. This book is by Marc Diacono and focuses on all things fermentation. I had a lot of fun creating this vibrant yet minimal illustration. In April the next book in the series was published, ‘From Scratch: Charcuterie’ by Tim Hayward.
My most exciting thing of the last few months is that in March my debut children’s book was published! It’s been so wonderful to read peoples reviews for The Looking Book, and to see copies of it out and about. I’ve included some reviews and pictures of the inside here.
Speaking of books, throughout March and April I’ve been busily working away on an illustrated children’s recipe book, which I am very pleased with but unfortunately won’t be able to share for ages!
Something I can share though are the most recent editorial pieces I’ve completed for Maisonette. I’ve really enjoyed creating these scenes of domestic bliss/chaos inspired by their articles about motherhood.
One of my goals for the year is to run more workshops and events, as I love connecting with people and encouraging creativity. In April I ran a family workshop at the Grant Museum, where we created collages of insects using translucent materials and a lightbox, inspired by microscope slides.
So that’s me and the main things I’ve been working on this year! I’ve also been doing a fair amount of doodling in my sketchbook which I’ll share in a future post.
For the rest of 2022 I would love to:
Start writing and illustrating another children’s book (I have lots of ideas up my sleeve)
Work on more projects in the museum and cultural sector
Do more food illustrations for editorial/publishing/branding
Create more work focusing on nature and the climate crisis
Open my print shop - finally!
Run more creative workshops with people of all ages
But first, ITALY, which I am SO excited for. I initially planned this trip in 2019 and am so glad to be finally going and having a month of colourful houses, art galleries, pasta and beaches. I’ll definitely be drawing a lot whilst I’m there, so stay tuned for some sun soaked scribbles from me.
Ciao for now!
